Botanical Garden
The Botanical Garden at CATIE headquarters in Turrialba, Costa Rica, contains not only a public garden displaying a wide variety of plants from across the globe, but also an important research collection of plants such as coffee and cacao, and tropical fruits and vegetables.
In all, the 110-acre garden protects 5,000 genetic accessions (samples of a plant variety collected at a specific location and time) in the field, representing more than 400 species. Some of these no longer exist in their country of origin and provide crucial base material for the development of new varieties.
You can help
- $1,000 designates you as a patron of the Botanical Garden. Funds go toward renewing and maintaining CATIE's valuable collections and augmenting the garden's educational initiatives. Donor names will be added to a plaque at the garden's education center.
